Magnesium Chloride

These salts are typical ionic halides and are easily soluble in water. The hydrated magnesium chloride can be extracted from brine or sea water. Usually with 6 molecules of crystal water. But it loses crystal water when heated to 95°C. It begins to decompose above 135°C and releases hydrogen chloride (HCl) gas. Raw material for industrial production of magnesium. Found in sea water and bittern. Magnesium chloride hydrate is a substance commonly used in prescription oral magnesium supplements.
